What's New
Expert Guide has developed two new services that will make the site more interactive
and useful for journalists and experts in 2009. Firstly, the new
Expert Alert news service offers digital commentary and angles on major
issues, as they happen. Ideas for Expert Alert topics are generated by experts and
their organisations, and Expert Guide works closely with the commentator to produce
a package that provides a new angle or insight on the issue.
Expert Alert footage or sound is made available both in a package and in high res
format, and is free for media use. Journalists can use the material for ideas, as
background before an interview, or use the expert’s grabs. To find out how to feature
in an Expert Alert, click here.
Secondly, to encourage open debate, inspire new ideas, and allow interaction, topics
in the news can be discussed in the Expert Alert forum. Every topic featured on
Expert Alert will have a forum associated with it, which is open for the public
or other experts to comment or contribute. The site’s visitors can suggest new forum
topics to be discussed on the site.
Alert will initially be produced monthly or on-demand, and aims to increase
in frequency and become weekly over time. The idea for the service was suggested
by a radio producer at the ABC, and made possible by the creativity of journalism
students from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The first Expert Alert
was sponsored by QUT’s Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering and ERM Power.
